How much light do plants need?
If you are going to use PHOTONICA lighting system, you should take into account the PAR indicators. When selecting the optimal lighting for different types of plants you should consider the point of light saturation .
The data in this table shows how many micromoles are required for certain plants:
How to choose the right lamp.
PHOTONICA illuminance levels – from 50 to 1650 µmol/m2/s
Let’s take growing cherry tomatoes as an example.
The table gives us the average number of micromoles for Cherry Tomatoes ≈ 500µmol
PHOTONICA 250 delivers 550µmol per cover area of 1.35ft x 4ft from a suspension height of 1.5ft above the plant
Thus, in order to grow cherry tomatoes on an area of 1.35ftx4ft, you just need to install a PHOTONICA 250 lamp
For a larger area, for example 3ft x 4ft, you need a PHOTONICA 500 which produces 1100µmol per 3ft x 4ft covering area from a height of 1.5ft above the plant.
Thus, if you are growing cherry tomatoes on an area of 3ftx4ft, you just need to install a PHOTONICA 500 lamp
For a 4ft x 4ft square, you need a PHOTONICA 750, which produces 1650µmol per 4ft x 4ft cover area from a height of 1.5ft above the plant.
Can the lighting be excessive?
Excess light can cause stress and halt plant development, but light deficiency is much more dangerous.
